Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Merstham Primary School is looking to appoint a Higher Level Teaching Assistant who will play a key role in providing support for the class teacher in or with individual children with additional educational needs. We are looking for individuals that are passionate, enthusiastic and committed to a career within education and childcare.. As an academy within GLF Schools, we benefit from sharing outstanding resources, and support in every aspect of school life from learning and teaching to staffing and educational expertise.

Your opportunity

If successful in this role, you will support the Class Teacher  in the teaching and well-being of the children, ensuring they fulfil their potential in accordance with the targets that are set. You will also support the wider school, led by the Headteacher, promoting the well-being of staff and children in the school.

About Merstham Primary School

Our School sits within a newly established cluster of schools, overseen by a Regional Director. Along with Merstham Primary, our cluster includes the following other schools; Southgate Primary School, Forge Wood Primary School, Kilnwood Vale Primary School, Greenway Junior School, Salfords Primary School, Lime Tree Primary School.

  • To ensure effective teaching following the teacher’s planning so children learn as effectively as possible.
  • Clarifying and explaining instructions.
  • Ensuring the resources support the learning and the children are able to use equipment and materials provided.
  • Motivating and encouraging the children as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to children’s needs.
  • Be interested in a career within the school setting and working with children.
  • Be able to stay calm and objective when presented with unusual or challenging behaviour.
  • Be enthusiastic and committed to working as part of a team.
  • Be a confident and clear communicator.
  • Be committed to their development and learning.

The Details:

Salary range: £22,982 - £26,532 FTE

Pro Rata range: £9,885 - £11,412  

Hours of work:  18 hours per week over 4 days 8:30 - 13:00 Tuesday – Friday  39 weeks per year (term time, inclusive of INSET days.)
